The United Nations

(Topics: Foreign Policy | Back to Home)

The UN has gotten a bit off track since 1945. The preamble to the United Nations Charter opens with: “We the peoples of the united nations determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind.”

But it's not going too well. Millions of people have died in wars since then:

That tells me that UN has not been able to achieve its high-minded mission. There are a lot of reasons for that, but we should start by asking what it would take to “save succeeding generations from the scourge of war.”

If that's even possible. Like too many issues in our world today the first step is to admit we have a problem.
